How do I download the app?

How do I find an e-bike near me?

Open the App to find an e-bike. A map of the area you’re in will open and all the e-bikes close by will be shown as tree icons. Touch the nearest tree to you and information about the e-bike will be displayed, including its location. Touch the arrow next to the street address to connect through to Google Maps for directions on how to locate the e-bike.

What do I do if there are no e-bikes near me?

Zoom out on the map to search a wider area. Touch the nearest tree icon to reserve an e-bike so it is ready and waiting for you when you get there. Touch the arrow next to the street address to connect through to Google Maps for directions.

Can I reserve an e-bike?

Not yet! We're still in the trial phase and are working on adding reservations soon.

How do I unlock my e-bike?

Once you have located a HumanForest e-bike, to unlock you can:
scan the QR-code (using your camera phone); open the App and enter the QR-code; or open the App, touch the closest tree icon to you, select Rent and then “Slide to reForest”.

Once you have unlocked your HumanForest e-bike, adjust the seat if needed, jump on and start your journey.

Do I need a special licence to ride?

No special licence is required but you do need to be over 18 years and able to ride responsibly.

Where can I ride?

You can ride across London but while we are in the trial phase, please only park in Islington. We will be expanding parking across London very soon.

Where can I park?

While we are in the trial phase, you can ride all across London but please only park in Islington. Please park your e-bike responsibly, either in designated parking bays or on the footpath, being mindful of your surroundings.

How do I lock my e-bike?

Once you have found an appropriate park within a permitted parking zone, lock the e-bike in your App by simply sliding the icon END YOUR RIDE to the right. You will be asked to take a photo of the e-bike and then will receive a confirmation message and email that the e-bike has been successfully locked.

Please note there is no physical lock for a HumanForest e-bike. Please do not lock a HumanForest e-bike with a physical lock.

You will not be able to lock the bike if you park outside an permitted parking zone, and you will continue to be charged for the use of the e-bike if you do so. You will also be asked to upload a photo of your e-bike.

How do I report a faulty e-bike?

You can report damages before or after your rental period by touching the ‘Report Damage’ button.

Can I pause my ride?

During your hire period you may pause your ride by touching ‘P Mode’ within the App. You can pause for unlimited time and will be charged £0.12p per minute. The App will indicate where you can and cannot pause your ride. You must not cause any disruption if you pause your ride and ensure that the footpath remains clear.

2. Battery

How does the e-bike get charged?

HumanForest e-bikes are powered with renewable energy. Swappable battery packs are charged remotely and replaced as needed by the HumanForest team.

How do I know how much battery is left?

At a glance, the white ring around the tree icon shows the battery’s approximate remaining capacity. The exact percentage is displayed when you select a specific e-bike to reserve.

How far can the e-bike go on a single charge?

A HumanForest e-bike can travel up to 80km per charge but this will vary depending on the user’s weight and weather conditions. E-bikes with less than 10% battery remaining will not be available for hire.

3. Safety

Are there speed regulations I should know about before riding?

London has a maximum speed limit of 15mph. Outside special zones such as schools and town squares, the maximum speed limit may be less. This will be communicated through the app.

Please be mindful of London's traffic laws and use bike lanes, where possible.

What about helmet laws?

We strongly recommend you wear helmet to stay safe while you ride.

What precautions are you taking for COVID-19?

We regularly conduct thorough cleaning and sanitising of all e-bikes. We recommend that you wipe down the surfaces of the brakes and handlebars with the spray provided before use and wear gloves whilst riding.

If we are notified of an e-bike being ridden by a user with Coronavirus, the e-bike will immediately be taken out of service and fully sanitised. Only after three days will it be returned to service.

4. Pricing

How do I access the free 20 minutes of daily riding?

It’s easy - simply download the HumanForest app by clicking herefor Apple and here for Google. Then create a HumanForest account and you're ready to go.

How does the free 20 minutes daily work?

Once you’ve created your HumanForest account, your free 20 minutes will be loaded to your account automatically, on a daily basis. You can use your free 20 minutes daily in whichever way you wish, across as many trips as you wish, but just before midnight at 11.58pm, those minutes will expire. They are not cumulative and cannot be carried over to be used the following day.

How much does it cost to park?

You can pause your ride and park the e-bike for £0.12p per minute.

What do I do after the free 20 minutes daily is used up?

After your free 20 minutes daily have been used, to keep riding you can pay £0.12p per minute.
